Meet Jen Whittington

My Background

I was brought up with Parents who loved music and wanted all of their 7 children to have the chance to find the music in them. I started with singing and recorder, learnt flute then became one of the music teachers at Howick School of Music at 17 yrs old teaching the earliest learners basic music skills right up to grade 5 students. Now I am 55 and have a Nursing degree, a Bachelor of Music Education and Dip. Primary Teaching, I've travelled Europe with the National Youth Choir, played drums for a Brazilian Percussion Band, (AKSamba), I've been teaching piano and singing at Kaitaia College for the last 3 years and have private students in a range of instruments. I play in a band called Fickle Mistress and have had several accapella singing groups in the 10 years I've been in Northland. Presently I work for Te Whakaaro Tahi Community Trust which brings music to schools that don't have much music happening. I'm at Pompallier, Paparore Taipa and Peria.
